Battle of Hoth recreates the fight on the ice world from The Empire Strikes Back as a quick miniatures game from Days of Wonder. It runs on Richard Borg's Commands & Colors system, co-designed with Adrien Martinot: each turn you play a command card to activate some of your units, then move and attack with them, rolling the custom dice to see what survives.
One side fields AT-AT walkers, snowtroopers and probe droids, the other Echo Base troopers, snowspeeders and Rebel artillery, 74 miniatures in all on a double-sided board dressed with terrain hexes. Seventeen scenarios come in the box.
For more depth, leader cards call on six iconic characters, and two multi-scenario campaigns let one battle's outcome shape the next. Normally a duel between Rebel and Imperial commanders, it also has a team mode for 3 or 4 players. Ages 8 and up, roughly 30 minutes a scenario.
