Bryan Bornmueller's cooperative card game The Fellowship of the Ring: Trick-Taking Game tells the first Lord of the Rings book in eighteen chapters, starting at Bilbo's Eleventy-First birthday party. Story cards quote the novel to open each chapter, and fresh characters, items and obstacles appear as you go, building towards the forming of the Fellowship.
At the start of a hand each player takes a character with a personal goal: Frodo has to collect ring cards, say, and Pippin tries to take hardly any tricks at all. The player holding the One Ring plays Frodo, and that card is the only trump. Everyone has to meet their own condition for the chapter to succeed, so you help each other through the tricks you win and lose.
The rules cover two players, with a dummy hand, and solo play with four open hands. Published by Office Dog, it handles 1 to 4 players of 10 and over, each chapter taking around 20 minutes.
