Secret Lair
Leo gets a sphinx. In the Leo drop of The Astrology Lands, Jeanne D'Angelo painted a winged lion with a human face resting on violet ridges, while a blazing sun pours orange and yellow light across the sky and a river of lava runs below. It is a Plains, full art, Secret Lair number 391, and this non-foil edition contains five copies.
The figure goes back to Mesopotamian myth rather than a plain lion on grass. Astrologer Maya Brooks described Leo to the artist as the reverse of Cancer, fire against water and Sun against Moon, so the two Plains were made to work as a pair. Leo is a fire sign whose season covers 23 July to 22 August.
Each drop also held one surprise bonus card. White players use Plains in almost every list, so a matching five keeps a Commander deck or a tokens build unified, and it pairs naturally with Cancer.
