Secret Lair
Scorpio's card in The Astrology Lands is a Swamp crawling with scorpions. Jeanne D'Angelo painted two of them, one on a tree trunk and one on the bank, in a dark wetland where pitcher plants sprout in the foreground and a burning orange sky shows through the trees. The non-foil edition packs the same full-art Swamp five times, collector number 394.
Scorpio is a water sign, so a wet basic made sense, and the sign is linked with red, hence the blood coloured bog. The artist has admitted real scorpions do not live in swamps; these are giant fantasy ones. Scorpio covers 23 October to 21 November and arrived as the eleventh drop, making a pair with the Capricorn card.
One surprise bonus card was included in every drop. For a black Commander deck or anything with a deathtouch theme, five matching Swamps give the battlefield one look.
